Cover Art for Dusk & Dawn by Tim Lebbon

I first read these books when I was young and just coming off Darren Shan's Cirque du Freak, so how original it is I don't know.

I can't see how anyone else could create such a unique world as Tim Lebbon does in these books. The story actually takes place in the distant future - the year 2208 to be exact - where you would expect more science fiction than fantasy. That is definitely not the case here.

The only thing futuristic about this book is its setting. Everything else seems as medieval as King Arthur, with an addictive story and a fair amount of gruesome violence right off the bat.

The characters are full and enticing and he tells their stories flawlessly. This book duo, Dusk and Dawn, are some of my favorite books and I'd recommend it to genre readers from horror to fantasy.

Trust me these books have what you like. Magical, mysterious creatures like soul trapping tumblers and murderous raging red monks. Interesting characters from cursed thieves to addicted minors and vivid, captivating settings like the edge of Noreela, where no one has ever been; the dark grey forests of souls; and the devils spine.

If I had to rate these books I'd give it a solid 10/10. They are great reads from start to finish that leave you hoping for more. A wonderful writer and a great read.
