Romance of the Three Kingdoms

by Anonymous

The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is probably the most well known work of literature in China. I read this in the eleventh grade and it actually became a problem when I found myself reading instead of doing the day's assignment.

Since it is translated it does, at times, seem to be lackluster and written with little detail.

The amount of characters alone can be overwhelming to a beginner and a lot of times the reader might find his/her self flipping back a few pages or chapters just to figure out what's going on.

Characters will be introduced and killed in a matter of half a page and due to the similarity of the character's names the book can be very confusing at times.

With this being said the story is incredibly entertaining and is one of my favorite novels.

Webmaster's Note: The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a classic piece of Chinese literature written in the 14th century by Luo Guanzhong.

It is much more of a historical novel than fantasy novel and it makes for fascinating reading, though the names and large cast of characters can be confusing, especially to a western audience.
