The Stand

The Stand
The Stand is Stephen King's magnum opus, about a plague ravaged America and the survivors' attempt to rebuild society with a supernatural power haunting their every move.
In terms of length, a modern day equivalent of The Lord of the Rings with several direct references to Tolkien throughout.
As Mr. King once stated, instead of a hobbit the hero is a noble Texan, Las Vegas as Mordor, and a drifter named Randall Flagg as Sauron.
Fantasy and social commentary combined into one. Worth the time, but set aside a lot of it.
